The Phonics Train is published by the Oasis Book Project — a Ugandan educational publisher on a mission to nurture skilled readers who love to read. Unlike generic phonics programmes, the Phonics Train is designed specifically for learners of English as a second language, following a carefully sequenced scope that meets every child where they are.

We teach reading every day in all classes.
We develop all the Big 5 skills of reading.
We start with alphabet recognition.
We teach sounds, names, sight words, and reading stories from Baby Class.
We teach all the single sounds and their letter names in Baby Class.
We teach short and long vowel sounds clearly.
We only use onset and rhyme to blend words in kindergarten.
We strictly introduce syllables in P.1.
We only use previously taught sounds to form words.
We do not read exams for our learners (after Baby Class Term 2).
